Entries are open for this year’s coveted Safety Innovation Award which highlights forward-thinking approaches to product design and safety.
The free-to-enter award competition, organised by Electrical Safety First, and sponsored by ProductIP, is open to applications concerning projects and products at all stages of development, including design and concept.
Past winners have included the ‘world’s smallest fire extinguisher’ – the E-Bulb from JOB Group. The tiny E-Bulb extinguisher is integrated into electrical appliances and quickly extinguishes internal fires from the inside, even before they are visible to the users.
Last year’s winners, Connected Innovations, offered another way of dealing with potential fires, this time from their smart socket device. The sockets, backed by a core safety and communications system which monitors a range of external factors, have the ability to switch off appliances if it detected a buildup of heat in the plugs and nearby wiring.

The deadline for entries to the Award is Thursday the 31st of August. The winner will be announced at Electrical Safety First’s annual product safety conference, where they will have a platform to discuss their innovation with the audience.
Media coverage, tailored newsletters, social media and online activity showcasing the innovation will be offered, as well as a half day of coaching from Electrical Safety First’s highly respected Technical Team – explaining everything you need to know to deliver your idea or get your product to market.
Information on the innovations being developed by all shortlisted applicants will be showcased at the conference.
